New Hampshire Public Radio exists to make a difference. Our vision explains how: “Through trustworthy journalism, NHPR enriches lives and helps build stronger communities, in New Hampshire and beyond.” This annual Impact Report invites you to explore the many ways NHPR — with the support of our listeners, readers, members, sponsors and benefactors large and small - made a difference during the year ended June 30, 2024.
At NHPR, impact always starts with inquiry — a reporter’s curiosity, an author’s or musical artist’s exploration, a podcaster’s probing question, an interviewer’s persistence. You’ll read here about investigative stories that exposed injustice and prompted legislative action. You’ll find links to immersive audio and visual storytelling. You’ll be surprised, I suspect, by the reach of NHPR’s journalism. And you’ll be inspired, I hope, by encountering some of the people we met in the course of the year.
We invested during these 12 months in deepening our understanding of the news and information needs of our New Hampshire neighbors. We increased our relevance by showing up in more communities to listen and learn and by sharing our reporting in fresh ways — from short-form videos to multilingual voting guides. Community concerns of Granite Staters across the political spectrum drove our election coverage. People across the state responded to our Big Question segment. People across the country filled the Outside/Inbox with queries about the natural world and asked Civics 101 to solve puzzles about how our institutions are meant to work.
Research by the Lenfest Institute for Journalism found this year that NHPR’s journalism is highly trusted by New Hampshirites. Even people who don’t regularly use our services are aware of our biggest stories. Our users are better informed and more likely to engage in civic activity. More than one-third could cite a story that made an impact on their lives. “By getting news from NHPR, New Hampshire residents become more knowledgeable and more invested in their communities,” the Lenfest report concluded.
Expanding Minds. Sparking Connections. Building Stronger Communities. This is New Hampshire Public Radio’s mission. Thanks to your support, the people of NHPR — committed to serving this state we love and our constituents across America - can pursue that mission with vigor, rigor … and joy.
