Awards
For the first time in its history, NHPR was named a Pulitzer Prize finalist. This recognition capped a string of honors for The 13th Step and its production team. NHPR was honored by the New England First Amendment Coalition for the commitment to press freedom that we displayed in pursuing the story. Podcast Host and Senior Reporter Lauren Chooljian won a First Amendment Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association, a Best Reporting award in the Podcast Academy’s Ambies competition and was honored with a Courage in Journalism Award from the International Women’s Media Foundation. The Document team was recognized for this work with the duPont-Columbia Award and a national Edward R. Murrow Award.
The team at Outside/In received a national Edward R. Murrow Award in the category of News Documentary for “After the Avalanche.” The show was also honored at On-Air Fest for "Cold T*ts, warm hearts: the cold water dippers of Maine." In another first for NHPR, the show’s series about misconduct in the mushing world, The Underdogs, received a first place Signal Award for Sports Documentary. Outside/In also received a second place award from the Public Media Journalists Association in the Documentary category for the episode "The Last Great Trip," while Reporter Todd Bookman won first place in the Human Interest Feature category for his story, "From the Gulf of Maine to a tin can: A glimpse into high-end tuna production on NH's coast." And you may have seen NHPR President and CEO Jim Schachter in NH Business Review’s New Hampshire 200 list for 2024. The NH 200 recognizes leaders who have had an impact in the Granite State. Schachter was selected for his steadfast leadership in growing NHPR’s financial health and audience reach.
